About the Program
Emergency Medical Technicians, better known as EMTs, are an important part of the pre-hospital healthcare community. They work in various locations, from Emergency Medical Service (EMS) organizations to fire departments, industrial first aid teams and special response teams. EMTs see patients at a critical time, during illness or injury. They are caring people who provide pre-hospital care, comfort and compassion.
The Emergency Medical Technician Program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Continuing Education, part of the Division of Corporate Education at Lancaster General College, and Lancaster EMS. Experienced EMT providers give instruction. The training takes about 200 hours and includes classroom lectures, skills sessions and clinical field training. Participants must be at least 16 years of age to enroll.
Participants who successfully complete the program are eligible to sit for their EMT-B certificate. Upon completing the program, participants will also have the following certifications:
• Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC)
• EMTs Assisting ALS
• Hazardous Materials
Class Offerings
Classes are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 10 pm, with some weekend work. All class dates are tentative and subject to change and the College may cancel or postpone any class because of insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. If a class is cancelled or postponed, your application materials will remain active to apply toward another class for one year. Upcoming start dates:
• January 10, 2012 (Application/Payment Deadline: October 14, 2011)
• August 07, 2012 (Application/Payment Deadline: June 15, 2012)
Fees
• Application Fee: $60 (non-refundable)
• Tuition: $950 (rates are subject to change and do not include background clearance fees)

NO refunds will be given on or after the first day of the semester.
• This program does not qualify for financial aid.
Educational Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
• Administer basic medications
• Administer CPR and operate the automatic external defibrillator
• Assist with emergency childbirth
• Bandage a patient
• Control airways through adjuncts
• Immobilize the spine
• Perform basic patient assessment techniques
• Provide oxygen therapy
Facilities
Classes are held on the campus of Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences and the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center. Field experience will take place at Lancaster General Emergency Department & Trauma Center and Lancaster EMS ambulances. At this time, we do not plan to offer clinical experiences outside of Lancaster EMS and Lancaster General Hospital.
