Every year, students in the Microbiology course participate in the Oktoberfest Sauerkraut Manufacturing event--they make actual, edible sauerkraut. The Sauerkraut Fest is an attempt to show how in real life certain organisms metabolize nutrients via an alternative pathway, i.e. fermentation.  Most antibiotics are manufactured this way.  The pictures below depict the Fall 2008 and Fall 2007 Microbiology students having fun with sauerkraut.

Microbiology is one of the College's General Education courses. To find out more about General Education and Microbiology (BIO 185), see the Academics portion of the website.
