ACLS - OB Initial Provider w/CPR Renewal
Please read this page in its entirety, as it outlines the ACLS - OB Initial Provider w/CPR Renewal pre-class requirements. This class is 2 days, with class time from 0700 – 1730 on both days, for a total of 20 hours. There is required work to complete prior to arrival.
This course uses the 2010 Guidelines for instruction. These guidelines offer a flexible, patient focused approach to treating various cardiac arrhythmias among the obstetric population. Additionally, this course will provide a systematic approach to the effective management and modifications of algorithms required for the obstetric patient. The ACLS - OB Initial Provider w/CPR Renewal Course uses case-based teaching in which providers will learn to manage 10 core cases during small group discussions and occasional large group sessions. Participation is expected.
Prerequisites:
• Current CPR Provider Card
• Arrhythmia Interpretation for Health Care Providers Class
• Online CPR Completion Certificate
• Printed ACLS Pre-Course Assessment Scores
Required Text:
• AHA’s ACLS Provider Manual (2010)
• Books may be purchased from
www.mbsdirect.net.
• Books may be borrowed from the Health Sciences Library (located in the James Street Lobby)
ACLS Pre-work:
• Complete the
ECG Practice Strips (PDF).• Access the AHA website at
www.heart.org/eccstudent, and enter the code “compression” to complete the pre-course assessment and view supplementary material. Bring the printed assessment scores with you in order to be admitted to class.
CPR Pre-work:
• CPR Renewal is accomplished through a combination of an online learning module and in-class skills demonstration and evaluation. The online modules and exam must be completed before 0700 on your scheduled class day.
You will only be admitted to ACLS - OB Initial Provider w/CPR Renewal course if you have completed the online CPR program and have the printed certificate.• You may complete the CPR material and test at any time (up to 60 days prior to class) from any computer with Internet access. If you do not have Internet access, please contact Janet Voss (

• You will need an access key to complete the online CPR program. Please send an email to
IPDrequests@lancastergeneralcollege.edu with the subject "CPR Key Request" and the DATE you are enrolled in class for your key. Keys are distributed Monday through Friday from 7:00am until 3:00pm, and only within 60 days of the class date provided. This is not an automated system, so please allow 24 hours for a response. After two attempts to pass the online module, you will need to purchase a new key through the American Heart Association at their current charge.
Completion Cards:
• ACLS and CPR certification cards will be distributed to you at the end of the class after you have successfully completed the exam.
