The Center for Clinical Education is pleased to present Preceptor Education. The key to a solid orientation lies in a strong preceptor program. The preceptor is the most critical link in the orientation of new staff. Preceptors prepare novice nurses to function independently, be accepted within the department by their peers, and promote their retention. Preceptors prepare, encourage, support, defend and ensure patient safety to the novice who is gaining knowledge, analytical skills and confidence to function autonomously as a nurse.
The Preceptor Class is offered at least six times yearly, including twice on evening shift. The class is also offered at Women's and Babies Hospital.
- See Netlearning (link on the left side of this page) for dates and times and to register for the Preceptor Class.
The Learning Style Assessment is a resource for preceptors to determine the orientee's learning style. Preceptors strive to meet learning needs by matching the preceptor's teaching and the orientee's learning style whenever possible.
