The Health Sciences Library is located on the first floor of Lancaster General Hospital, near the James Street entrance. It has approximately 2800 square feet of space. Tables, study units and a lounge area provide seating for 42 people. There are ten networked computer workstations for use by faculty, students, staff and the general public.

 

The library collection includes approximately 7000 books and subscriptions to 400 print journal titles. Subjects covered include medicine, nursing, allied health, health administration, general education and consumer health. The library staff works with the faculty through library meetings and faculty meetings to evaluate library support of the curricula.

 

Networked computer workstations provide access to online databases including the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health, Medline, Clinical Psychology, Health Administration, and Academic Search Elite. The library also subscribes to MD Consult, which offers full-text of medical books and journals, clinical practice guidelines, patient education handouts, and medication information. The Cochrane Library database includes full-text systematic reviews of the medical literature. EBSCOhost provides access to multiple full-text databases, which include the social sciences, humanities, general sciences, education, and newspaper literature. The Internet, Microsoft Office applications and the library's online catalog are also available. The Library maintains an Intranet website (available at LG-internal locations only) that provides access to all databases, online catalog, Internet resources, and information request forms at all networked locations, including computer labs and classrooms.
