Colloquium Series: Fundamental Skills of Management
 
Each Leadership Colloquium is targeted to all leaders in the LG system and offers the opportunity for leaders to share knowledge and expertise around the building of competencies within the management function. Skill builders on the following topics include: Handling Difficult People, Problem Solving Methods, Conflict Management, Time Management and Team Building.

COLLOQUIUM DESCRIPTIONS
 
Managing Problems Successfully
Discuss strategies to solve difficult problems using a variety of problem handling tools. Identify possible solutions while recognizing the positive and negative consequences of each solution. Determine the value of the problem solving process in building effective teams.
 
Engaged Decision Making
Identify strategies to promote effective decisions through a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience & judgment. Share experiences regarding “best practice” methods for solving problems.
 
Conflict Management
Learn conflict resolution strategies to view situations as opportunities to build understanding and communication skills within team members. Discuss how to handle disputes equitably and build commonality and cooperation.
 
Time Management
Learn skills to manage time effectively. Discuss techniques to successfully manage multiple priorities and structure daily activities.
 
Collaboration in Teams
Determine how to create a climate in which members want to succeed to the best of their abilities. Learn strategies to motivate and empower direct reports & team members by inviting them to share ownership of critical issues. Discuss ways to connect with team members to instill loyalty towards team objectives. Establishing Expectations Discuss techniques to establish clear, organized guidelines and expectations with team members. Learn how to set “stretch” objectives collaboratively with team members using two-way dialogue.
 
Team Management
Learn skills to blend people into teams, as well as, creating strong morale & spirit using healthy communication and encouragement techniques. Discuss how to promote open dialogue and inclusion between team members. Share ideas on promoting connection in the team.
