Dr. Lawrence Bonchek, founder and former Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at LGH, and Editor-in-Chief, The Journal of Lancaster General Hospital, addressed a packed house of more than 250 students, faculty, hospital staff, physicians and community members at Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences' first Distinguished Lecture Series.

College faculty members and organizers of the Distinguished Lecture Series, Robert Hess, left, and Robert Brader, right, presented Dr. Bonchek, center, with a plaque thanking him for serving as the College's first distinguished lecturer. Dr. Bonchek spoke about the evolutionary development of artificial heart valves. In his presentation, entitled, "Tackling the Impossible: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Developing Artificial Heart Valves," Dr. Bonchek shared his insight and experience in the fascinating world of heart surgery.

The lecture, which took place on Wednesday, April 16 at 4 p.m. in Lancaster General Hospital's Stager Auditorium, was the first of what the College hopes will be an annual event.
