Target Audience: Physicians, Nurses, Midwives, risk management, legal, CRNP’s and students in these fields.
Objectives/Agenda
• Define the mechanisms for Brachial Plexus Injury (BPI)
• Identify clinical manifestations of BPI.
• Discuss management and long-term outcomes of BPI
• Articulate the key features of MCARE legislation, including the physician reporting requirements
• Review the role of Pennsylvania Department of State with regard to physician disciplinary issues
• Contrast the process involved with civil litigation vs. Department of State activities
• Define shoulder dystocia and incidence rate
• Determine, demonstrate and practice the appropriate maneuvers for shoulder dystocia management
• Summarize why it is not possible to accurately predict occurrences of shoulder dystocia.
