SHOULDER DYSTOCIA CONFERENCE
May 13, 2008
Burle Conference Center, Room #1
5PM-9PM
$100 for non-LG Participants
Purpose: Shoulder dystocia is defined as “a delivery that requires additional obstetric maneuvers following gentle downward traction on the fetal head to effect delivery of the shoulders (ACOG Practice Bulletin, Number 40, November 2002). The incidence of shoulder dystocia ranges between 0.6% to 1.4%. The true incidence is difficult to ascertain due to lack of uniformity in the diagnosis of shoulder dystocia. Although shoulder dystocia cannot be predicted, providers and nurses must be knowledgeable of the risk factors. When risk factors are present, shoulder dystocia must be anticipated and a management plan must be established. This conference will discuss the management and plans of a shoulder dystocia and also discuss the legal implications and risks of a shoulder dystocia to the mother and newborn.
Target Audience: Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Midwives, risk management, legal, CRNPs, and students in these fields.
